Water and Sanitation
Water
The Water Treatment Plant has been in operation for 14 years. According to INAC standards, this system was designed
to last 20 years. The issue of hard water was never addressed at the time. To date, hard water has been a
contributing factor to premature failure of hot water heaters, corrosion of plumbing pipes and generally all
plumbing fixtures. Many of the band members refuse to drink the water because of its hardness.
Sanitation
The Sewage Treatment Plant emergency upgrade continues to be at a standstill. It's been almost 3 years since the
agreement was signed with INAC to repair the plant.
Plumbing Department
Total house calls made by the plumbers for the past year is 1,204. Total plumbing jobs for the past year are 2,278. The funding from INAC for this work is very minimal.
Transfer Station
The Semi-Truck hauled 136 loads to the Portage Regional Landfill site. This is 52 more loads than last year. The Transfer Station shed was vandalized and tools stolen, 2-roll off bins were burnt. Dead animals are being discarded into the bins. Outsiders are hauling garbage into the reserve. The Transfer Station is grossly under funded by INAC.
