Freeware?

What is freeware?
Freeware programs are free to use. Notice the wording. Not "Free Download" or "Free to Download" or even "Free to Try", but "free to use". "Open source" is another type of freeware. Try using either "freeware" or "open source" in Google or your favorite search engine to find free software.

And here's some free advice: if you own a computer, learn how to use it properly. There are thousands of sites on the internet that offer tutorials (lessons) on ways to make a computer work for you; check them out.

The Firefox Browser

First and foremost – an internet browser that actually works (well, 99% of the time) the way a browser is supposed to work. In fact, the authors of this site encourage you to download and use Firefox. It makes their job a whole lot easier... So what are you waiting for?
Download Firefox

What? You're not off downloading Firefox? Well, if you intend to stick with Internet Explorer you might at least upgrade to the latest version.

Word Processors

If you don't want to spend money on Microsoft Office, here are two free programs that do pretty much the same thing.

Abiword
AbiWord is a word processor program, pure and simple. The program can open and save Word documents, and with the plug-ins that are available you can insert images, and so on and so forth, just like you can with MS Word. Abiword can also open those pesky .docx files generated by the latest version of Microsoft Word. So, if you are interested in this program here is the Abiword home page.

Open Office
If you want an office suite like Microsoft Office you can check out Open Office, a free suite of programs from Open Office Org. Open Office contains the same kinds of programs you'll find in Microsoft Offce; a word processor, presentation creator (like Powerpoint), and so on. Interested?
